This site provides information about the methamphetamine crisis, as well as other illegal drugs. Sections on the site include: enforcement, identification, prevention and treatment. Several anti-methamphetamine public service announcements are available for viewing, as are up-to-date research documents and links to other local, state and federal agencies.

California Healthy Kids Resource Center
The Resource Center is a combination lending library and reference center for research-validated prevention programs.

California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS)
The survey gathers information on behaviors such as physical activity and nutritional habits; alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use; school safety; and environmental and individual strengths. The CHKS is intended for use in planning and evaluating student support programs, primarily alcohol, tobacco, other drug and violence prevention programs.

Getting Results
A website that houses a collection of publications and services designed to help California school districts use research-based strategies to plan and implement alcohol, tobacco, other drug, and violence-prevention programs.

The following is a listing of some of the effective alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention programs from the various campuses within the CSU. These have been excerpted from the 2005 CSU Biennial Report on the California State University Alcohol Policy and Prevention Programs.   1. CSU Dominguez Hills – “Mock Sobriety Checkpoints”
    In conjunction with campus police, an alcohol awareness coordinating team set-up several checkpoints in high traffic areas on campus and conducted mock sobriety checkpoints. Fatal Vision (FV) “goggles” were used to simulate status of illegal blood content levels and the negative effects they have on mental and physical acuity. The campus police used this exercise to provide teachable moments for students to point out the risks of drinking and driving.
  2. CSU East Bay “FOR REAL”
    This peer education program was developed for Hayward Unified School District Middle/High School classroom groups. This interactive curriculum consists of presenting the biological, psychological and sociological dimensions of alcohol use and abuse. It includes acting out scenarios, writing short journal entries, playing alcohol jeopardy and incorporates CSU East Bay Social Norms messages.
  3. CSU Long Beach “Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Education (DATE) at ‘The Beach’”
    The program provided CSU LB students with current factual information and drugs, alcohol and tobacco through information tables in the dining commons, campus walkways and other campus events. Promotional items in campus and community alcohol drug resources are offered to provide positive alcohol messages. Special efforts are made to distribute materials prior to weekends, holidays and vacations.
  4. CSU San Diego – ASPIRE
    This is an individualized intervention program for students who violate the campus alcohol policies. Students undergo motivational interviewing and a 1-3 session treatment plan. The program is designed to reduce episodic drinking as well as alcohol related violations and problems.
  5. CSU San Luis Obispo – “The Cal Poly Reality”
    This campus-funded social norms marketing campaign was conducted by senior marketing students in the school of business. The focus was on learning by doing. It included newspaper advertising, group presentations proposals and other items. Social Norms campaign was based on a survey of Cal Poly students.
  6. CSU Sonoma - SAFE (Students Advocates For Education)
    Through this program over 40 students peer educators were trained to educate the campus community in health related topics including responsible alcohol use. SAFE peer educators facilitated educational programs and workshops on responsible alcohol use to hundreds of students.
  7. CSU Stanislaus – “Late Night Stanislaus”
    This program offers free entertainment and activities every Friday during the Fall and Spring semesters from 9pm – 2am. With funding from CSU Alcohol and Traffic Safety grants in partnerships with other campus offices, they have produced innovative and exciting activity options for students including movie night, Monte Carlo night, basketball tournaments and jeopardy contests – all provided with food and non-alcoholic beverages.
  8. California State University, Fresno – “The Best Kept Secret” and “The Secret is Out”
    These two program themes were utilized to engage student interest in multi-faceted outdoor activities housed at the center of campus and sponsored by the student committee of the campus Alcohol Advisory Council through offering free food, music, live performances all infused with social norms messages. “The Secret” was the relatively low instance of alcohol use and misuse by Fresno State students as recorded through a campus survey.
  9. CSU System – Alcohol and Traffic Safety Grant
    This $750,000 grant from the Office of Traffic Safety is providing funding for ten CSU campuses to address alcohol abuse and its impact on traffic accidents, DUI’s as well as on-campus incidents. This grant supports partnerships with law enforcement and community agencies, peer education activity and strong assessment efforts to measure the impact of the funded programs.
